Random Acts of Kindness, Senseless Acts of Beauty
I just finished cleaning up my kitchen after putting tonight's dinner into the crock pot, and the last thing I did was gather up all of the trash and recycling to take out to the bin for pick-up. Our recycling bins are clear on the other side of my condo complex, so we rarely take it out, and when we do there's always just a damn ton of it (which I then attempt to carry to the recycle bin in one trip).
Anyway, today I stepped out the front door of the house with my loads and loads of recycling, and immediately after silently thinking something along the lines of "this really sucks," a Hispanic woman looked at me from across the parking lot. She walked over, reached out her right hand and asked me to give her the heaviest item... a large bag full of cans, plastic things and wine bottles. For a moment, I thought she wanted them so she could take them and redeem them for cash, but she was nicely dressed and I didn't want to offend her by asking that. So, I just handed it to her. With that, she walked with me all the way to the recycle bins, put the bag into one of the cans, smiled and told me to have a nice day.
I couldn't believe it. It's the first time in a really long while that a stranger has done something for me just to be kind.
I am going to pay it forward.
