Anza Borrego

Al and I spent today driving out to Anza Borrego to check out the wildflower blooms and galavant around the California desert.
Here's a small photoset from the trip.

Having never been to Anza Borrego, I didn't have anything with which to compare this year's blooms. So even though Al said he's seen it prettier, that the blooms had literally blanketed the desert floor in previous years, I thought the scenery was simply breathtaking.
On today's drive, alone, we braved dry desert wind gusts in Anza Borrego that nearly knocked us over, the bitterly-cold mountain town of Julian, and sleet and snow on the way home. Now, tonight, I'm back at the beach, all snug at home, and there's a lovely Alaskan storm blowing in. The state of California never ceases to amaze me... we have everything from salty coastline to wintry ski towns to hip, posh cities to barren desert to lush greenery to rugged outcroppings that reach thousands of feet into the sky. It's a beloved, beautiful place rich with such a vast variety of climate, terrain and appeal.
California is, most definitely, my home for life. I don't think I'll ever get enough of it.
